Hardship Is Still Occuring Within Mount Druitt With Buses

There is one community memeber who has travelled for years from around Gasmatta Crescent area to by bus Mount DRuitt train station to Parramatta and to work from there.

Now she has to taxi in from home to Mount Druitt train station to parramatta nd then taxi to work and the return is the same for 5 days a week work - although I have met her through a another commuter she was too stressed out and embarrassed to talk about>She is now thinking of leaving her work - I thought we as a country as a state and as a Mount Druittan are to be promoted with better services to get us to work. We should not struggle to get to our destinations. Government should provide services at a reasonable cost to the community so that people can reach their destinations with much ease! She is not happy with the new Gasmatta service!

Blake's Way Is Causing Interest With Bus Divers

Here we are today politicians that have removed our bus services from smaller street or even complete bus services are now seeing how our group has group has grown from strength to strength. It has amazed me how one person started something that was just to be for the betterment of Mount Druitt and there's one person spoke to another person whom spoke to other people and ....... here we are today.

A community interest group lobbing for return of services - a society that had gone back into the dark ages when Mount Druitt was a developing town about 30-40 years ago and had limited services.

Now we are showing 'Blake's Way' - at Hoyts Mount Druitt starting 8.30am for 9.am on the 5th June 2010, I have heard from a Westbus drivers that that have a notice on their board and they are interested about it - Well I hope that this is the same with Busways bus drivers as it appears the management of Westbus are now realising that our group has a lot of positives to assist bus operaters to benefit the community. Blake will hopeful knock out and make them realise that Blake is increasing services in times that are required and new and improved services that will join the community together and rid the hardship that is still happening around the suburbs!

Blake's Way Is Here To Show

It is official, 'Blake's Way' is here to be shown to the community! After a few weeks we finally have tremendous Support from the Management and staff of Hoyts Mount Druitt.

Well, this could be surprising to a lot of people - people that never thought we would be doing this. When you look at the 'Blake's Way' bus network concepts - it would be very pleasing to known that within our community we have a caring youth that has taken into his world a devised plan to revamp the the current bus network systems around Mount Druitt, placing thousands upon thousands of smiles around the community's faces - life will be easier.

For the viewing public we will have limited ticketing for the show - so first in first serve. The details are Hoyts Mount Druitt, 8.30am for 9am sharp 5th June 2010. Invitation in open to the Mount Druitt and wider community and guests of the area.

We hope you will enjoy it!

Shalvey Community Member 'Ray' Chooses 755 Bus Service As Opposed To 758 Bus Service

Well, as the rain poured down this afternoon very heavily two of us made a quick decision regarding what bus to catch.

Wait for two 758 bus services and then catch the 755 bus service, both 'Ray' from Shalvey and myself wanted to wait 20 minutes for this bus service so we don not get too wet walking home. there are more sheltered bus stops along the 755 bus route than the 758 bus stops and this was the main reason we chose to wait before the new time tables were implemented last year.

Both our 755 bus stops where we get off the bus are sheltered and keep us that little bit drier.
Another win for 755 bus service!

Save Our Bus Services Mount Druitt And Surrounding Needed More by the Mount Druitt Community

We have been invited by Lynn Cameron to have a 'Save Our Bus Services' Stall at the Tregear Festival on the 28th August 2010.

Our community support is overwhelming and it is amazing that after 6 months, we are still been look on as the 'People power' group that brought buses back - peiople want us to continue. I suppose when you start something there is never an ending it can grow! Even the politicians are looking at us as a powerful voice for the community.

This time we will be better prepared and have a little bit of a group comraderie that will inspire others to join or understand how we are going! Thank you Mount Druitt Community

Kids Club at Whalan Mayfair Creates More Support for Our Group

We were approached by Rosemary from the Kids Club at St James Anglican Church Whalan that they have a club for children 8 - 12 years commencing 30th July 2010 on Fridays during school term from 4-6pm cost is $1 per child anyone interested can contact Ruth Virtue on 96751726 or 0431060107.

After speaking to Ruth they also have concerned parents regarding bus transport issues around the area and are very supportive to our cause. We thank Ruth and Rosemary for their moral support and which them luck with their kids club.

Kids this age can be educated of rock throwing issues that can destroy complete bus services for the local community and support from a kids club can educate others.

Dangerous Rock Throwers Again

One of our group members Wayne, has reported of rock throwing event around the area again - bus services 755 and 780 which travel along Luxford Road have been diverted from Whalan area for the rest of the night. Wayne ended up walking home tonight . This happened around 6.30pm tonight.

Geese when will these idiots know when to stop! Carelessness - there have been suggestions to make these youths paint one bus (outside) and then they have more respect by watching their work of art - travelling all around the areas! Kids need to be told by elders of our community, elders need to be told

I hope it was severe and some hurt - we need to act- we need to do something now - before it is too late!

From the Western Weekender North St Marys

W e have found that North St Marys bus issues have flared up again, it appears only they have half the bus services returned - refer to the report in the Western Syndey Weekender

Residents are fed up
May 20, 2010 at 10:39 AM

North St Marys residents, Barry and Grace Lewis, now have to catch the bus from Forrester Road. For North St Marys residents, Barry and Grace Lewis, catching the bus from their home to the next suburb can take up to one hour. But Mr Lewis, who uses the bus service as his main form of transport, said it never used to be that difficult.

Back in October last year the Westbus 782 bus service, which covered the St Marys and Werrington areas, was cut due to low patronage on the bus. When residents raised their concerns with State Member for Londonderry, Allan Shearan, half of the original bus service was returned.

Mr and Mrs Lewis are among those residents who are disadvantaged, as the bus service no longer travels down Griffith Street in North St Marys. They are forced to catch the bus from the four-laned Forrester Road, which is often too dangerous.According to Mr Lewis, they are basically cut off from accessing the Penrith CBD because it takes so long to get there.

“The 782 bus used to come from Penrith through Werrington and down Griffith Street. It now terminates at Werrington Station,” Mr Lewis said.

“That bus being taken out means that people basically have one choice… if they want to go to a major shopping area, they have to catch the [Westbus] 759 bus to Mt Druitt – but that still takes an hour.”

Fed up with the situation, Mr Lewis sat down with Mr Shearan last week to voice his concerns.

He said Mr Shearan had consulted with a number of residents about the same bus service.

“My representations were forwarded to the Minister for Transport and Roads on May 4. Mr Lewis will be advised as soon as possible upon receipt of the Minister’s reply,” Mr Shearan said.

According to Mr Lewis, the State Government offered a number of reasons as to why the bus service would not travel down Griffith Street, with low patronage being the main concern.

“They [State Government] don’t have a really good excuse. They can’t keep talking about a lack of patronage because people won’t use the bus every day. You’re talking about adding on a maximum of five minutes to the route,” Mr Lewis said.

“Mr Shearan said it would be a battle, but he won it last year.”

Save our Bus Services Executive Group Meeting

Today we had a 'Core' Group meeting with the main group members that had initiated our group and went through the last group meetings outcomes and progress. Joan chaired the Group meeting earlier this month (in my absence) and explained it was an overwhelming well turned up meeting with support. Although issues were raised from within the community, there was a sense that things are happening with local issues and a question as where do we go from here.

understanding that we are supporting 'Blake's Way', it was mentioned that the bureaucrats from within the N.S.W. Ministry of Transport may not lend an ear to Blake's idea although they will cheer and congratulate Blake on his generosity of preparing and presenting a bus network system for Mount Druitt and Surrounding Suburbs. My gut feeling is they will take his ideas on board and in doing so should financially reward him for his efforts he has made so far. It is hardly imposable to think that from the day we started with doom and gloom deleted bus services, we now have been uplifted with total happiness, when you see all commuters happy and enjoying an easier life with the public bus services infrastructure. To hear the whispers of happy people that were saddened by the reduction of essential bus services.

Looking forward, we are still proceeding with the pending Gasmata Service along the new route (as previously mentioned), the return of Bus service West of Shalvey, complete return of services to Chestnut Crescent, Bidwill and (inclusive of more bus stops), erasing the issue of bus services turning 10 to 15 minutes early along Wilmott, increased weekend services and providing better bus services along Frank Street, South Mount Druitt.

Blake's way would fix all these problems - so we need to promote his bus network system and that is what we are going to do - we are waiting make it official but we will be looking to show 'Blake's Way' on 5th June 2010 pending our equipment can be used at Hoyts. Once we get a result from Hoyts, then we will promote it everywhere possible! At present Blake is getting support from Blacktown City Councillor Jacqueline Donaldson, Both the Mount Druitt Standard newspapers and the St Marys Star newspapers, and now the Western Sydney Public Transport Users Group and of course the general public! His way will be a big problem solver and I'm sure if given the chance, he would be able to develop bus network systems for the greater area of Sydney, N.S.W. and maybe even Australia.

WEAB Response For Wilmot Early Buses

We provide a copy of e-mail sent to Jacqueline Donaldson regarding issues raise regarding early bus services leaving Wilmott, from WEAB.

Subject: Re: WEAB Meeting Date: Thu, 13 May 2010 20:50:55 +1000

Hello Jackie, The only complaint I have received about the buses is the fact that sometimes they come as much as 10-15 minutes early, which isa big NO-NO and one thousand times worse than being late. I tell people to keep ringing the 131500 number to lodge complaintsso, presumably they are doing that. There is a bit of an issue that they don't go into Discovery Avenue anymore, so the shops, cyber cafe,HealthOne Clinic etc. are at a disadvantage as are the elderly who live in that precinct. I have a notion though, that the people who live on or close to Palmyra Avenue are happy that the bus now passes them. But I am not overwhelmed with complaints from anyone exceptingthe running early issue.....

Kind regards,
Spokesperson

Funny Buses Around Mount Druitt!

It appears that Westbus has a new bus service introduced today.

although most people that travel on buses either catch buses from within Mt Druitt from visiting people, shop or mostly travelling from wider areas - even as far as North Shore or even the City of Sydney, when you reach the Westbus Bus stop at the mount Druitt Interchange you would not expect to return back to the North Shore.

Witnessed by four commuters including myself - there was a bus service signage to Manly Beaches' at around 5.15pm - the bus did circulate 2-3 times around the interchange. It would seem to be a refreshing trip for summertime commuter's but as we are heading closer to the winter season it would appear highly unlikely that the majority of Mount Druitt residents would travel to Manly Beaches (especially when their rugby league team just lost their recent match)! I later found out the driver had pressed in his computer the wrong code!

WESTERN SYDNEY 2030 - More Transport Feedback2

Matt, 19/5/2010

There are more pressing areas we need to save for food - like the Hawkesbury River flats, such as around Pitttown, which is threatened with development - and that is prime food growing land with wonderful soils. Badgery's Creek is ok, but we need to prioritise the fights for foodland in Sydney.Your enthusiasm for Peak Oil understanding is admirable, but Badgery's Creek makes so much sense for

Western Sydney from so many perspectives, particularly as the only activity that can generate the needed amount of jobs for the area in the long term. NSW Govt say that most of the jobs in the future will need to be generated in Western Sydney. This is the one project that can give this goal the greatest boost.

Unknown 19/5/2010

Yes,

We need to mobilise ALL of Sydney to start marching for a better city full stop. The planning in this city is woeful. There are Third World Cities with more decisive and visionary planning than Sydney. All the NSW Government does is prop up the Development Industry.

The Department of Planning should be called the Department for Loving and Caring for Developers.March everyone, like in the '60s - let's shout so loud that those hopeless non-representatives in Macquarie Street hear us, and we get useful, frequent reliable transport and better planning. Let's March until this happens

Holly S says: 19/5/2010,

Superb idea... I'll join you!I will march. I will march every day until something changes... it's a disgrace. WAR AGAINST CARS!

More Feedback From Western Sydney 2030 - Keep on coming in!

Andy F says:

Would you people from this site support a march ?

I would like to drum up 1000 people to do a monthly march `WAR AGAINST CARS` - MORE BUSES MORE OFTEN , MORE RAIL MORE OFTEN - WAR AGAINST CARS - March on a monthly Saturday morning , pick a location, hand out pamphlets, big banners , finish with all 1000 people having a pint at a pub - having walked ! :)

More Feedback From Western Sydney 2030

Hi All,
I live in London but am from the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
I take a keen interest in the plight of NSW transport (or lack of it). A lot of my mates on the beaches still complain bitterly about the transport problem. We are motivated to do something about it.

We have been mulling the idea of some kind of protest march in the CBD. To tell the politicians on both sides that enough is enough. Can I canvas your opinions please:
1.) Is it a good idea (Y/N)
2.) Are protest marches effective?.
3.) Are there better ways to get the message across?
4.) How do u go about organising a march?
5.) Would u turn up?.
Feel free to reply on the board for all to see.It might be just a pipe dream...but some of the greatest movements started with a single idea.

Kind Regards,
TS

Blake's Way - All The Way!

We will be showing Blake's way on the 6th June 2010 - pending etchnical issues to be checked.
Venue to be annouced once we get clearance - this will be open to the general public an, Blacktown Councillors and the State Members from Penrith to Blacktown and from Liverpool to Hawkesbury, Tmemebers of the ministery of Transport.

You would have seen articles in the local paper for Blake and seen how he has charmed a lot of people with his 'Bus network' - He is the a perfect example of how youth care in our neighbourhoods. Please keep an eye on this website for more details.

Community Gain!

Just when you think things are quiet they aren't - we are still pushing ahead with all bus isues all around Mount Druitt - nothing will stop us!

Some of us are wondering why the Hon. members of Mount Duitt and Londonderry are now talkling to us as they realise the damage done to the community. maybe it takes a lobby group like ours to show passionately how people have been affected - one thing is that the community is not silly, blind or even stupid. They should never undermine the power of the community and representatives that care of the community. Our group is going with numbers - we would have up to 40-45 people in our group that have taken up their own interest and have shared, provided and joined in ideas to benfit the community.

Sometimes as a leader of a group I can be blind in some areas - but I do see the picture in others. That is there is a lot to gain in what we do and not for personal gain for wholesome community unity gain.

WESTERN SYDNEY 2030 - More Transport Feedback

Kerri B says:
Firstly, I can't click on the links 'Metropolitan Transport Plan' or 'Tell us what you think'.

I would love to see Government run Bus T-Ways along the Great Western Hwy from Parramatta to Penrith and vice-verca. We need an alternative method other than the train. At Minchinbury, you can only get to Mt Druitt station by bus. A lot of people drive instead, as it is more direct than relying on trains. If you had parking stations hubs along the Great Western Hwy, I guarantee you will bring people to use this public transport. There are a lot of people who travel to Parramatta and Penrith for work, school, university, Tafe, after school activities etc. This is needed now, not in 2030.

WESTERN SYDNEY 2030 - transport feedback

John Svoboda -Chairp 2010-04-09 11:21

I personaluy believe if you can leave your car at home , reducing carbon emmissions, you can travel on cheaper transport that if ten time the amount of people travel more on public trasnport; buses and/or trains then more efficient servicves can be provided thus further increasing employment within the transport industry.

Hayley Ballis 2010-05-06 22:10

The area of Western Sydney needs vast improvements in order to be more sustainable for the residents, in particular the buses need to be more frequent for the residents without transport, the 784 and the 786 bus comes every half an hour but it stops at 10:30pm terminating at the shops how else are the residents supposed to come home, the buses that go to regions without a train system run less frequently around those regions shouldn't there be more buses to accommodate those needs for people without a car, what about the trains in the western line, one train to lithgow with only 4 carriages that is ridiculous while all the other trains into the city have about 8, more frequent trains to lithgow and there wouldn't be a clog up with everyone wanting to get the train at 4:00pm each day, the proposal lies with the government, but with all due respect the public transport system is a joke, look at other countries you'll find they probably have more success than us, shame on you Kevin Rudd.

Sustainable Urbansim 2010-05-10 10:37

Hayley,There are villages outside of Zurich, with lower population levels than much of western Sydney, yet they have much more frequent services, and consequently, much higher patronage - because the services also go where people need them to go to.Approx only 38% of all journeys are journey to work, and the vast majority of frequent bus services are actually for journey to work, with all other journeys poorly catered for. There are many many cities that we can learn from for good transport.

David Wilson 2010-05-07 06:25

The four main transport policy options for Western Sydney need to be debated and agreed:- 1)Stop designing car dependent suburbs.2)Set up a dedicated Development Agency for Western Sydney.3)Develop a robust transport funding framework to implement a sustainable transport plan.4)Move into a new era of designing a carbon neutral resilient city that is self sufficient with public transport and walking and cycling networks and reduced reliance on road transport and congestion costs.

Sustainable Urbansim 2010-05-10 10:32

David,It is not quite as simple as you make it out to be.
1. Our suburbs need be designed with an understanding of how connections are made across various modes of transport; and how each of those work to create local, regional and city-wide connections.
2. Dev. Agency? For what purpose? Wholistic, well founded planning with clear goals, and whole of community involvement from the regional scale to local works best - co-operation between all groups for a positive outcome.
3. Agreed.
4. Do we actually know what these high and mighty terms mean? Carbon Neutral? in what way/s? resilient city? for who and what? self sufficient - in almost all of history no settlement has been fully self-sufficient in everything ...

Mount DRuitt Standard - Blake's Bus System

A 14 year old has transport fix

Lauren Murada - story posted in newspaper 5/5/2010

A 14 year-old boy says he can the area's public transport woes.

As bureaucrats and politicians argue about traffic chaos, Shalvey student Blake Bardowski has presented a blueprint to clean up bus services. His vision has the approval opf one local lobby group.

Blake said he became aware of problems facing residents after new bus routes were introduced last October.

"A lot of people are disadvantaged and need to get to places they can't with the current system
but could with the old system," he said.

So he combined the best of the old and new systems to create a new network,

"They should fix the problem butb they don't really listen to the people, " he said of the authorities. "They should listen to this because it advantages a lot of people and connects them.

I've listened to what the people want and written it down, an=dd my own bits and touched it up so it will work out."

Blake spent 4 weeks redesigning the routes and is currently finishing the time table.

He has a detailed 49-page presentation with maps outlining the routes for each service.

Blake said the redesign was harder than he expected.

"i really care because a lot of people couldn't get to where they want to go," he said.

"i couldn't get to my grandma's place and some of my friends places and it took me a bit longer to get to school (Penrith High)," Blake showed the new network to the Save Our Bus Services Mt Druitt And Surrounding Suburbs Group, who gave it their approval.

Chairman John Svoboda said they have to tweak a few technical aspects but was very impressed with his work.

"It seems like he's covered every area, places people couldn't get to", he said.

Save Our Bus Services will meeting this Saturday at 10.30am at Holy Family Parish Emerton, to discuss Blake's proposal.

The group hopes arrange a public meting at Hoyts Mt Druitt soon to showhis work to Busways, Westbus , local Mp's and council members.

To attend this week's meeting, call Deb Robertson on 0409669876.

Response From Allan Shearan - from 29/4/10 and 14/4/10

It is pleasing that we have heard from Allan Shearan and regrading our groups recognition for what wee have done to return buses within the Mount Druitt Community. It is pleasing that he reflects on 'The Private Members Statement' of the NSW Government for our group, helping him bring the bus issue to the attention of the Minister'.

I think we need to move forward here as have not seeked recognition of myself only of our group and our group's efforts to support each community to return buses to a natural order.

Mr Shearan looks forward to an ongoing fruitful relationship with us and we also wish the same with him, as we seem to be working for the same cause, now.

'Boy Sorts Out Bus Sevice' - St Marys Star

BY KYLIE STEVENS

04 May, 2010 09:45 AM

MEET the Shalvey student who could become the saviour of disadvantaged bus passengers.
Blake Bardowski, 14, has devised his own bus network and timetable.

It includes many Mt Druitt areas inconvenienced under timetables that were revamped last year.

The Save Our Bus Services lobby group has endorsed the proposal as Blake's Way, which he will unveil to the public in the coming months.

Blake says he knows how disgruntled commuters feel.

His trip to and from Penrith High School takes an hour longer now.

``But I was saddened when I heard about the commuters who can't get to places, do their shopping or see their grandchildren,'' he said.

Blake spent three months creating his network, which consists of almost 60 routes and goes as far as Penrith, Rouse Hill, Castle Hill and Liverpool.

There are 20 new routes, including a shuttle service between Mt Druitt station, Westfield, Mt Druitt Hospital, Zoe Place, North Parade and Sherbrooke Street for free or a small fare.

Blake revised the 730A/C route to give commuters quick and direct access between Mt Druitt, Whalan, Bidwill, Shalvey and Lethbridge Park.

The popular 755 run would include Plumpton.

Sunday services would be restored to Chestnut Crescent, Middleton Crescent and Manifold Road in Bidwill.

Buses would return to no-go zones in Siandra and Koomooloo crescents in Shalvey, but still avoid rock-throwing hot spots.

Timetables were revised to cater for early morning shift workers who now have to get taxis.

Blake is surprised at the overwhelming public support for the proposal so far.

He would be happy if half of his ideas were taken on board by bureaucrats.

``It would be a win-win for everyone, including bus companies with extra patrons,'' he said.

But Blake says he will be surprised because, he says, the government ignores community comments.

Bus Stop Issues New Bus Service Gasmatta - 674

Although the new Gasmata service is not up and running as yet - I have received a phone call from a resident that is worried of heavy traffic on Samarai Road, Whalan.

I've assured this resident that it is a trial service which will be 6 services each way per day, Monday-Friday, 2 services each way on Saturday and one each way on Sundays. The main issue for this resident was new bus stops being installed. I have advised this community member to come along to our meeting (or a representative of that area) to have their say, provide their issue to us.

I have heard there a a resident round the Corner from Gasmata Crescent that is complaining of the bus stop in the front of their place and people are standing their garden eccetera.

Wrong Date On Ticket

One of our group members Shane, had an incident that happened to him - you would never dream that it happened to you!

The got on one of the buses Mount Druitt and as he is a regular traveller on many bus routes around Mount Druitt, bought his pensioner excursion ticket and when he did a return trip on a bus - he was advised that that pensioner excursion ticket is lot legal as it didn't have the correct date stamped on it.

The bus driver radioed to their office - checked the driver number on the ticket and they said he didn't exist. SO he had to purchase a new ticket for end of day return home!
