Frankly South Mount Druitt Neglected!

As Chairperson of Save Our Bus Services, Mount Druitt And Surrounding Suburbs, I was invited to visit with Local Mount Druitt (South) Community resident Peter Kerr ( and Group member of Save Our Bus Services, Mount Druitt And Surrounding Suburbs), affected by the complete deletion of service along Frank Street.

Whilst walking around the community and seeing affected areas also meeting community members that have been severely affected life styles Residents living around Frank Street, Emily Street Emily Street, Coates Street (South), Paul Street and Janet Streets. Before, the Busways 739 bus route use to travel from Mount Druitt to Minchinbury down Carlisle Avenue, left into Frank Street, left in Coates Road, right into Miller Street anf then continuing to Minchinbury via George Street Mount Druitt.

Now the Service turns left from Carlisle Avenue, right into Coates Street, left into Miller Street and then continuing to Minchinbury via George Street Mount Druitt.

After reviewing the area for approximately and hour and a half We found there was no patronage on any residents catching bus on Fuller Street. In fact, we discovered that most residents of Fuller Street - would walk up north of Coates Street (approximately 300m metres), reaching the Mount Druitt Station overpass to Reach Mount Druitt Shops.

Although speaking to community resident Jan, from Mount Druitt (South) whom is severely affected by the deletion loss service from Frank Street - from carrying shopping bags literally doors walking distance from Frank Street bus stop now to an extra 3 blocks of walking up to corner of Fuller and Coates streets. She found out about it whilst the new time tables of 11/10/2009 were implemented and immediately contacted Peter Kerr. Jan commented to me that, 'They have taken the buses away from community members that really need and give to community members that don't really need this service on their street!'

Also we had met Ray and Kevin and their feeling were felt the same as Jan it seems to be a same story with everyone around Everyone is shocked with what has happened! We will organise a film date in Mount Druitt very shortly for community members to speak!

The main differences with Frank Street and Fuller Street is that there is less traffic on Frank Street as opposed to Fuller Street. When bus turn from Carlisle Avenue to Fuller Street there could be cause for concern as buses may hit opposing traffic, waiting on for the traffic lights to turn. On the return journey going to Mount Druitt buses turning right from Frank Street into Carlisle Avenue have no traffic lights and may wait a while for traffic to clear. Maybe, traffic lights could be placed on the corner of Frank Street and Carlisle Avenue to settle this matter and make it easier for the drivers.

To commensurate the Mount Druitt South communities Busways did introduce a bus route 739V which is less than your every day limited shopper hoppers - 2 services each way Monday to Fridays from Mount Druitt Interchange to South Miount Druitt to Old Mount Druitt return to Mount Druitt Interchange. This present given jointly by the bus operaters and NSW Ministry of Transport is one way odf saying, 'Sorry', to the commuters that used to have a higher patronage catching 739 as opposed to Fuller Street, after a long standing services have been ripped out of Frank Street, Mount Druitt South.

We provide are current links for timebles and maps for Busways 739 and 739V and current bus routes maps for your information:
