Today I spoke to a Representative for Westbus Windsor, referring to the possable return of bus services along Gasmata Crescent, Whalan. It would be given route number 674.
As quoted on his letter to us, 'We have also approved a re-diversion of Route 674 down Gasmata Crescent, pending confirmation from Westbus that the previous safety concerns of drivers have been addressed. This route would operate all trips via Gasmata Crescent, except for one trip in the morning in each direction on school days, when it is needed to make diversions to schools along its route.'
Before I spoke to Westbus today, I contacted our Group Members Mary and Peter. They advised they knew nothing of safety issues - and even their son Jim (lives on Gasmata Crescent) knew nothing of any safety issues - that's when I contacted Westbus Windsor, was advised me that they are deciding as to whether the bus service 674 will be introduced around the Gasmatta Crescent area. The decision has to made by Friday, 19th Fenbruary 2010.
There 2 main safety issues:
A) Rock throwing incident in Gasmata Crescent before the buses were removed.
b) Bus drivers turning right from Gasmata Crescent (south) - into Luxford Road
have blind spot in turning right - Although services bus services have been
travelling along there for almost 36 years!
To assist the decision, we checked with Mount Druitt Police Sargeant Peterson, whom confirm there was one incident on 23rd September 2010. According to residents around and along Gasmata Crescent - the last rock throwing incident was over 3 1/2 years ago. What is always required is unmarked police cars tailing the bus or park in various spots with Gasmata Crescent and if any suspects of crime are caught - then this can be publicised - also I would recommend street signs advising damage and costs to be paid if throwing causes any harm to vehicle, passengers and/or bus driver. Maybe a special joint meeting with our group and community members living around Whalan, with interested parties held within Gasmata Crescent - while street is closed off - ensuring there are no children let loose around able to commit this crime and potentially in the future loose the service for the community - we have to make people under stand this!
Westbus are also looking to take a bus into Morotai, left into Mimika Avenue, Right into Madang Avenue and then left into Samarai Road - which will turn right into Luxford Road - to Mount Druitt - the return trip will go along Luxford Rosd and then turn left into Gasmata Road (but there is still the safety issue remaining).
I was thinking with the blind sight on Gasmata Crescent (south) and Luxford road - may need traffic lights for safety reasons - problem solved!
Both problems solved - we ask anyone living around the Gasmata Crescent, to contact Westbus Windsor as per the provide phone number and ask about their pending service they may get back in!
